Every form field, and what it sends

Under each control: the pair it adds to the request right now. Change things, then submit.

1. Typed fields

hiker=

Hidden on screen, plain text in the request. Do not use a real one.
password=

email=

Must start with a scheme, such as https://
album=

A phone keypad on phones; no format check anywhere.
phone=

q=

A quantity from 1 to 20. Try the arrow keys, or type 2.5.
group=

Grows with its content where field-sizing is supported. Line breaks are sent as %0D%0A.
notes=

A hidden input (no label: nobody fills it in) sends this on every submit:

source=fields-gallery

2. Chosen fields

Hazards seen (checkboxes)

(nothing: no box is ticked)

With no value attribute, a ticked box sends the word on.
(nothing: not ticked)
Trail conditions (radio buttons)

(nothing: no button is chosen)

The group labels are never sent. Old Fire Road has no value attribute, so its text is sent.
trail=

Hold Ctrl or Command to choose more than one; each choice repeats the name.
(nothing: none chosen)

Styled with appearance: base-select where supported; an ordinary select elsewhere. It sends the same either way.
difficulty=moderate

Suggestions only: anything you type is sent, typos included.
trailhead=

3. Specialized fields

effort=5

marker=%232e7d32

hiked=

start=

permit=

No picker in desktop Firefox or Safari: a text box there, so type 2026-10.
season=

No picker in desktop Firefox or Safari either; the format is 2026-W44.
week=

The first Send button sends only file names. Send as multipart to send the files.
photos=

4. Display elements (never sent)

$0
(nothing: outputs are never sent)

5 of 10

3 of 23

5. Buttons, and the request

The form would send this body (urlencoded; the button you press adds its own pair):

hiker=&password=&email=&album=&phone=&q=&group=&notes=&source=fields-gallery&trail=&difficulty=moderate&trailhead=&effort=5&marker=%232e7d32&hiked=&start=&permit=&season=&week=&photos=

A button with no script

This button is type="button". It opened this dialog through commandfor and command="show-modal", with no JavaScript. The map image submits the form and sends map.x and map.y, where you clicked.
