Notes for class
- This is the prequel to Who Fell Off the Ladder? It sets up the mental model (URL, HTML, HTTP; a client you don’t control; a network you can’t trust) that the ladder film builds on.
- Dates, names, and quotes on screen were checked against CERN and W3C sources, including the 1989 and 1990 proposals and Berners-Lee’s FAQ. Code panels are labeled where they are modeled on originals rather than copied.
- Try the aside in class: open DevTools, run
document.designMode = "on", and edit any page. It changes only your copy, which is the point. - The narration is a synthetic voice (Kokoro TTS). The film’s timing follows the narration track, so a recorded voice-over can replace it cue for cue using the transcript.
- With Reduce Motion turned on in the operating system, the film keeps its fades and drops the sliding motion.
- Set in Atkinson Hyperlegible Next and Mono, typefaces the Braille Institute designed for readers with low vision.
